The celebration kicks off with a special (and FREE!) community yoga class, “Yoga for Peace”, to remind us all about the importance of connecting to our own inner peace. The day continues with a ceremony celebrating time-honored traditions associated with the International Day of Peace, incorporating activities such as observing of the one-minute of silence, unveiling of the peace pole, ringing of the peace bell, procession of the international flag parade, raising of the UN flag, speeches by key delegates & guests, and broadcasting of Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon’s video message about peace.
Following the official ceremony will be The Gandhi Peace Concert, which utilizes art as a medium to fuse an eclectic group of Hong Kong-based musicians and dancers in an united campaign for peace. The festivities aim to highlight the uniqueness of various cultures through a spectrum of performers trained in different genres – from classical to contemporary and pop to rock.
This year’s cultural peace program includes: African & Korean drummers, an youth orchestra, traditional lion dancers, a choir & percussion ensemble, Hong Kong rock bands and pop pianists, Indian choir & dancers, vocal soloists & duets, classical musicians and more!
Note: All activities associated with the Peace Day are open to public for viewing, but seating and participation in the ceremony is by invitation only
